Similar to other, male with Indian accent call claiming to be Government claims department and wanting to send me money that is owe to me from the government... if only!!
Gave false DOB and called the number. Then only to be hang up on when I insist on speaking to the Indian lady's manager.
I then called back again claiming to be from NSW police... and they hang up before I can get another word in.Eric replied 5/23/13, 4:25 PMSimilar scenario occurred with my mother - man with Sub-continent accent stated from Government owing her $5248. She to ring 0280910566 ask for Sherry Townsend and quote RR143. Mum did so and was placed on hold - Mum hung up after about 3 min. -

I have the same story (6/05/2013)with the above comments a also male with a strong accent, possibly Indian, called saying he was from the Australian claim department Office. He was in a loud noise environment and was very difficult to hear. He asked for a date of birth for verification and claimed over payments for Bank Charges telephone ,gas and electricity and it was the return of over charges by the government . The refund was for $5,248.00, and to claim the money he gave a reference number and said to call 0280910566 manager name cherry Johnson with lady voice also Indian accent . He wanted bank details, but , I trying to insisted on a cheque sending to me . after that , the put me on hold then , I hang up ...after this i reported to Penrith Police station over the phone hoping to inform Innocent victims in our community

Male with a strong accent in a very loud environment calling himself Peter called me from a private number. He asked if he was speaking to xxx (last name), to which I answered "call me what you like" and we repeated this, verbatim, literally 10+ times until he gave up.
Peter fraudulently claimed to be from the governments imaginary 'reclaim' dept. I am owed money etc. Asked if I wanted a cheque or bank deposit, I said "mail me cash", but eventually decided a cheque was ok :). I was asked to confirm my details (which were 5+ years out of date). I said that my address was different, my name was different, but the phone number, of course, was accurate. I was still owed the same money?? Told to call his manager back at 0280910566 with a 4 character code to 'confirm', which was used as a broad term that Peter explained simply by repeating it.
Best guess is these people are looking for as much personal data as possible to resell. With any luck, giving them false info will make you fall off the list. -

a female with an indian accent called saying she was from the ato. she asked for my date of birth for verification and then informed me that i had $5800 owing to me for overpayments on electricty and other items. she new my name, but she stated my address incorrectly as i have not lived at the address she suggested for over 5 years (which had a different phone number) i told her to send me a check she wanted bank details.....SCAM

A male with a thick accent, called saying he was from the Australian Govt/Tax Office. It was very difficult to hear. He asked for a date of birth and claimed we were entitled to a refund because of over payments to the Govt. for gas and electricity GST. The refund was for $3,600.
For us to claim the money, he gave a reference number and said to call (02)80910566.
He wanted bank details, to deposit the money straight in to. -
